Gilberto Gallopin

Gilberto Carlos Gallopin is an Argentinean/Italian Independent Scholar, Argentina. He is an ecological systems analyst, scenario builder and sustainable development expert. He has worked in ecological systems analysis, global modeling, environmental impact assessment, environment and development nexus, scenario analysis, policy dialogues, and sustainability science; he published more than 160 papers. He pioneered the building of global scenarios, the application of the systems approach to sustainable development, and coined the concept of socio-ecological system. Some of his relevant work experience includes: Regional Adviser on Environmental Policies at the U.N. Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean; Programme Director at the Stockholm Environment Institute; Leader of the Land Use Program of the International Center for Tropical Agriculture; Senior Fellow of the International Institute for Sustainable Development; Senior Expert on Environment and Development in the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA); Full Professor at the University of Buenos Aires and at the Fundación Bariloche, Argentina, as well as Executive President of the latter.
